Port Blair, June 04: Challans were imposed on huge number on two wheeler riders today in different areas of Port Blair because pillion riders were not wearing helmet.
The police department had already given the notice regarding this challan drive in local media sometimes back but many believe that the timeline was not enough for people to get used to such rules.
Such strict implementation has invited large scale criticism for Traffic Department, which has failed miserably in making fare-meter use mandatory for Auto Drivers and also checking reckless driving by private bus drivers.
One can still see decades of trucks, in pathetic condition, carrying cargo inside Port Blair city but traffic police is keeping mum.
Now the question is why two wheeler riders are harassed and targeted all the time by Police Department? Why the department becomes powerless infront of auto, private truck, and private bus unions?
