Port Blair, May 29: A number of residents of Burmanallah region, South Andaman have demanded the Electricity Department to restore power supply to the region at the earliest, accusing the local authorities on negligence and prolonged unscheduled load-shedding.
On 25th May, 2018, power to Burmanallah Village, was cut and till yesterday evening there was no power in the region. Sources in the region told Andaman Sheekha over phone that the major problem for the power outage is the power cables in the area that are not in a good state and easily snaps during strong winds and heavy rainfall.
Residents of the Burmanallah region said that anyhow the power was restored yesterday evening at 06:30pm which lasted for two and a half hour and after that the entire night the voltage was low and to their utter dismay, this morning again there was another power cut.
Jasbir Singh Khaira, resident of Burmanallah, said they were not having electricity for 72 hours straight. “We have complained about it to the site office but they haven’t done anything about it.”
“When I call the Assistant Engineer of the region he asks me to report it to the site office, which we have already reported the first day and today I have launched a complaint again and if the power is not restored by this evening, we the villagers are planning to stage a protest,” said Mr Jasbir.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, the public of the region said that load-shedding since last three days has hampered mostly all their works. “We can’t hold anymore without electricity,” said the residents of the region.
