Port Blair, May 23: While top bosses of Andaman and Nicobar Police claim to make police force friendly to public, since last nearly one year it has been found that entire Police Department is implementing some rules and regulations, without even thinking about the convenience of public.
While previously all DGPs used to interact with media on regular basis both in group and personal meetings the present DGP appears completely inaccessible.
Recently a new restriction has been imposed in Gurudwara Line area by the Traffic Police, making the entire route from Hotel Blair area to Ratnam Market one way, which means no vehicle can come from Hotel Blair area to Ratnam Market area. Similarly the Gurudwara Line road from Post Office has also been made one way.
Now this new rule has become a constant source of discomfort for all residents of Gurudwara Line area. The residents who are living in Gurudwara Line now cannot reach Ratnam Market directly, which is hardly 100 mtrs away, as now as per new rule they have to go all the way from Gurudwara Line to Light house and reach Ratnam Market. Even two wheelers are not exempted from this new rule.
Surprisingly even after declaring the road from Hotel Blair area to Ratnam Market one way, one can see many cops coming out of PS Aberdeen going straight towards Ratnam Market. Why this new rule in not applicable to cops? Why this double Standard? When genuine problems of Gurudwara Line residents are not considered why Cops are given immunity in this case? Question is who will impose challan on the Cops? Are cops above the law?
There was a time when Superintendent of Police of South Andaman and other District were always in touch of Media to understand the problems of public better and to know the ground reality but presently not only the SP, South Andaman but entire Police Force appears far away from General Public. The Lt. Governor or the Chief Secretary can check the records to see how many media interactions have been organized by the present set of officers of Andaman and Nicobar Police to understand public problems and answer to media questions.
