Port Blair, May 21: “World Honey Bee Day” is celebrated every year throughout the world and this year also it was celebrated on 20th May 2018 and the theme is “Save Honey Bees”. To mark the occasion a programme was organized by the Department of Agriculture in association with High Value Agriculture Development Agency (HVADA) in the Panchayat hall, Subashgram on 20.05.18. Shri L.N.Raju, Sarpanch, Subashgram graced the occasion as Chief Guest.
At the outset, Mr. Dinesh Ch. Das, Agriculture Assistant, Diglipur welcomed the gathering and highlighted the importance of ‘World Honey Bee Day’. He elaborated the theme for this year “Save Honey Bees” and has emphasized the farmers regarding the theme. He also explained the scope and importance of bee keeping, usage of honey and other bee hive products in daily life and their importance in human health and cultivation aspects of honey bees. The practical knowledge and experience was shared by shri Laxman Das, bee keeping farmer of Kalipur village.
A quiz competition for the farmers was conducted on the theme “Save honey bees”. Altogether 35 farmers and departmental staff actively participated. The programme concluded with vote of thanks proposed by Mr. C. Santosh Kumar, Agriculture Field Assistant.
