Baratang, May 20: Incidents of loots and attacks inside Jarawa Tribal Reserve between Jirkatang and Middle Strait are on the rise. Only in this month, atleast four major incidents have been reported from the Jarawa area.
In first two major incidents the Jarawa Youth looted huge cash from tourists and escaped. In third incident a Jarawa youth shot arrow at the tyres of the cargo truck, after the truck driver refused to stop, when the Jarawa youth asked him to stop. In fourth incident Laptop of a tourist was taken away by Jarawa youths.
Although the Laptop was later recovered, but the as expected, the Laptop is said to be of no use now.
Andaman and Nicobar Police has been doing excellent job inside Jarawa area to protect public and Jarawa both but infront of a few aggressive members of Jarawa tribes, they are also helpless. Police personnel are literally working inside Jarawa Tribal Reserve with their both hands tied behind. AAJVS is the only organization which can do a lot to control and educate Jarawa but for reasons unknown the AAJVS has failed miserably in this regard.
Public demands that the AAJVS must deploy more staffs in ATR and conduct frequent patrolling inside Jarawa Reserve to bring things under total control.
Whether ATR should remain open or not is a debatable issue but till the ATR is open, it is the duty of Administration to keep public and Jarawa Tribes safe. If nothing is done now, it won’t be a surprise to hear further bad news from Jarawa area.
