Port Blair 20th May: The National President of Indian Pharmacist Association – IPA, Mr. Abhay Kumar, recently met Dr. A. K. Burman, the Director of Health Services, Andaman and Nicobar, in his chamber along with the Organising Secretary of IPA branch A & N Islands.
Various matters relating to the Pharmacists were discussed during the meeting.
He handed over a letter to the DHS with various demands for the betterment of Pharmacists, top among others were, Immediate filling up of all posts of Pharmacist under Director of Health Services by recruiting local candidates of these Islands. (at present as many as 31 posts are vacant & no recruitment for the Pharmacists have been done since 2010); filling up of the posts of Chief Pharmacist on promotion from the departmental candidates; Filling & expansion of Drugs control department; Re-evaluation of the posting of Pharmacist depending on load of OPD patients and creation of new posts of Pharmacist, as no new post of Pharmacist has been created since 2001, even though many new place of posting were created and many institutions were upgraded.
Mr Abhay Kumar also conveyed that there is a heavy burden of workload on the existing working Pharmacists as there is an acute shortage of Pharmacists and filling up of the posts will ease out working Pharmacist sto perform their routine duty with much more efficiency and dedication. The DHS reportedly assured of immediately filling up of the vacant posts of Pharmacist under DHS, once the recruitment rules are amended.
