Port Blair, May 04: Although there is a standing order against pasting of advertisement in walls or placing illegal banners, but at present one case see hundreds of posters and banners of various functions, political events, private cultural programme, coaching classes, Mehandi artists etc are pasted in every corner of Port Blair city. Such illegal advertisements using posters and small banners are not only defacing Port Blair city but also are a big challenge for Administration’s Swachh Bharat Campaign.
On one hand the illegal banners are posters are increasing by large number everyday on the other hand, the responsible departments are turning blind eye towards such banners.
In many parts of India the Court has already asked to take down all the illegal banners and lodge FIR against persons, who are putting such banners but in Andaman as no one really cares, hundreds of illegal banners are coming up in every corner of Port Blair city, which are not only blocking views but also defacing city.
Surprisingly most of the illegal banners are fixed either on electric or telecom poles. Some are fixed on Bus stands while for some special poles are fixed over night.
In Port Blair today anyone can put any banner anywhere. Public fear that tomorrow if someone even puts a highly objectionable banners and posters in city to spread communal misunderstanding, there would be no one to check that.
Long back the PBMC had filed FIR against people who are behind such illegal posters and banners and after that this problem was under control for some years but sadly as for a long time no such step has been taken the number of illegal banners are again increasing in every corner of Port Blair city. Hope someone in PBMC is listening.
