CHENNAI: To commemorate World Press Freedom Day 2018, the U.S. Consulate General in Chennai, in association with DT Next, is launching an essay contest for college and university students in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Puducherry, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The contest will run from now until April 30. The theme for the essay contest is “What press freedom means to me.” Essay should not exceed 250 words and should be written in English. Entry is free.
Students can send their essays to ChennaiPressMbox@state.gov with the subject line: WPFD2018 – Essay Contest. Submissions will be judged by a panel consisting of representatives from the U.S. Consulate General in Chennai, DT Next, and academia. The top three essays will be published in DT Next. In addition, the authors of these winning essays will have the opportunity to intern at DT Next. All participants will receive a certificate and be invited to the American Center (in person or through Facebook Live) to join a debate on the topic.
