Baratang, Apr 02: Fuming over lack of funds, slow developmental works and insensitivity of Administration, the PRI members of Sundargarh Panchayat, Baratang today began indefinite hunger strike at South Creek Village of Baratang Island.
According to details, the Pradhan of Sundargarh Panchayat, Baratang, Mr. Biju Gurudasan today started the Indefinite hunger strike along with the Up-Pradhan, one PRI member and six villagers of the area.
The PRI members and villagers have been demanding for construction of a bridge at Khara Nallah of Baratang and construction of three important village roads since a long time.
The Pradhan of Sundergarh Panchayat said that the Panchayat has been also demanding for funds for the salary of DRMs and other supporting staffs as well as a full time Panchayat Secretary for the Panchayat since a long time but these demands were also not fulfilled by the Panchayat.
Surprisingly, after the PRI members and villagers started hunger strike this morning the BDO of Rangat today reach the protest site by noon and said that Rs. 30 lakhs have been released under GA General fund and Rs. 3.40 Lakhs have been release for sanitation.
The BDO also assured that a Panchayat Secretary has already been appointed for the Panchayat, who will be joining the Panchayat within 15 days.
However despite this the hunger strike continued and the protesting people including the Pradhan said that as the demands for the bridge at Khara Nallah and construction of three village roads have not been fulfilled yet, they will continue their protest.
