Port Blair, Mar 19: A & N AIDS Control Society organised a Voluntary Blood Donation Camp (VBD Camp) at Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Dollygunj on 16th March 2018 in association with INNER WHEEL CLUB, Port Blair. ITI students have participated actively in the camp and came forward for this noble cause. Total Seventy Five (75) units of blood were collected from among the voluntarily donors from the students in which 16 are females.
The VBD camp was conducted under the leadership of Dr. M Joy, Project Director, A & N AIDS Control Society.
The VBD camp was facilitated by the Dr. Ganesh Samadder, Deputy Director (Blood Safety), ANACS. Donors were informed on blood donation criteria, blood safety and post donation care through power point presentation. The blood donation camp was organised with an objective to achieve 100% voluntary blood donation by 2020.
The technical team from Blood Bank, G B Pant Hospital and ANACS ensures that the donated blood is screened before given to the recipient to prevent emergence of HIV, HCV, HBsAg, Syphilis, Malaria and other blood transmissible diseases. They also examined the donors for eligibility for blood donation and briefed the donors on various aspect and importance of blood donation. The differed was done on the basis of disease or deficiency; and they were advised to correct it before embarking on next blood donation camp.
