Diglipur, July 05: A five days long Farmers’ training programme on SRI method of Paddy cultivation was inaugurated today on 5.07.12 at Shibpur Panchayat by the Agriculture Department in association with ATMA in presence of Mr. Ramesh Kumar, Deputy Project Director (ATMA) ,Middle & North Andaman/Assistant Director(Agri) ,Diglipur. Mr. Nilu Mazumdar, Pradhan, Shibpur inaugurated the programme and in his inaugural address he appealed the farmers to come forward and adopt the SRI method of paddy cultivation which would enhance the production of paddy.
While welcoming the gathering, Mr. Ramesh Kumar explained in details about ATMA & various schemes /programmes being implemented through the agency. He also explained in details about the importance of SRI METHOD of paddy cultivation Farm Mechanization. During the technical session lectures were delivered on various topics like nursery management of SRI, preparation of mat nursery, nutrient dynamics,IPM ,IWM etc. by Smt. Shakila Nawaz, A.O.(Agri.) and Agriculture Assistants viz Smt. R. Bhu Bharthy, Mr. Sudhangshu Haldar, Mr. Hari Ram, Mr. Prashanth and Mr. Shanmuham, AFA,Shibpur.
Simultaneously, a three week long programme i.e,Demonstration on SRI under promotion of Organic cultivation under the RKVY was also conducted in the field of Mr. Ajit Kr. Burman, Shibpur, wherein mat nursery (wet method) was prepared by the officials of Agriculture Department and also briefed about SRI METHOD . Altogether, 40-45 farmers actively participated in both the programmes along with the presence of staffs of Agriculture Department. The programmes were ended with vote of thanks by Smti.
