Port Blair, March 14: Alleging that SCI is hiring only mainland based merchant navy officers, dozens of local merchant navy officers today staged protest outside the office of Shipping Corporation of India, A & N Islands.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha protesting local merchant navy officers said that a number of letters have been written by the Directorate of Shipping Services and Andaman Nicobar Administration to SCI for giving first preference to local officers for filling up the Vacancies but the SCI is paying no need.
“The SCI is adamant and neglecting us for no cause. Instead they are hiring Merchant Navy Officers from a outsourcing company,” alleged a Local Merchant Navy Officers.
After protesting till this afternoon around 14 local Merchant Navy Officers went inside to meet the SCI in-charge Mr Shyamal Mandal where, according to them, they received no positive output.
“We will continue our protest tomorrow and if by 11 AM we do not get any positive response or assurance we will enter into the SCI office and without hampering their work we would be sitting inside the SCI office as a mark of our protest,” said local Merchant Navy Officers.
