Port Blair, Mar 07: The residents of Andaman Lakshadweep Harbour Works Colony at Junglighat have been running from pillar to post since last couple of years, against drainage pipeline from a prominent restaurant at Junglighat.
As per reports the pipeline was laid by the Port Blair Municipal Council through the back side of the compound wall of ALHW Colony at Junglighat as a makeshift arrangement.
Now because of the damage in the pipeline all kind of dirty waste from the restaurant falls inside the campus of ALHW colony.
Because of such mess, entire area has become unhygienic due to discharge of waste materials and other chemical content, the drainage which is completely inside the premises of ALHW Colony.
The residents of the area allege that the affect is adding various other problems such as blockage of drains, breeding of mosquitoes, entering of drain water in houses during overflow and also release of foul smell.
The residents of ALHW Colony have given several complaints to PBMC with the request to take immediate favorable action in this matter but till now nothing has been done.
When Andaman Sheekha contacted the manger of the Restaurant, he said that the concerns for the residents of ALHW Colony are genuine and the Restaurant is also asking for the permanent solution to this problem by PBMC. As the present temporary arrangement of drainage outlet is causing problem for all and also causing financial loss the restaurant.
Even after repeated try the Secretary of PBMC was unavailable to comment in this issue over phone.
Such incidents are enough to understand that how serious the PBMC actually is to Swachh Andaman and Swachh Bharat Mission.
