Baratang, Feb 25: Around 10-11 people of Baratang staged protest in front of the Andaman Public Works Department, Baratang on 22nd February against an unknown agency, which damaged a government property i.e side walls of the foot path at the entrance of Khadi Basthi, creating enormous problems for the villagers of the Khadi Basthi area and Kanchan Garh.
Not only this, the unknown agency has also filled earth in the entire area creating problems for the villagers and the worst sufferers are the pregnant ladies and old aged people of the village, who find it difficult to walk on steep and loose earthen road. Many protesters also alleged that the earth was removed and dumped illegally.
However, after the protest, headed by Mr G Kurma Rao, Ex Zilla Parishad Member of the area, the protesters were assured by the Assistant Engineer of APWD that for construction of sea wall at Khadi Basthi and for road construction of Kanchan Garh area, the outsourced contractor of APWD has filled earth in the respective area.
It is also learnt that later when the Assistant Engineer assured the protestors in written that the road construction work in the area will start within 07 days, the protest was called off.
