Port Blair, Feb 13: Since a long time people of North and Middle Andaman, ATR Commuters, Tourists and Tour Operators have been demanding for construction of one more toilet block at Jirkatang Jarawa Outpost area but neither Administration nor Panchayat paid any heed to that. Adding to the plight the lone Toilet Block is also kept in such horrible shape that people find it nightmarish to use the toilet block.
There is nothing to write about cleanliness of the toilet block as due to lack of staffs and ever growing number of tourists the toilet block always remains unbelievably dirty and stinky.
One can imagine about the seriousness of Panchayat about maintaining the Toilet Block by looking at the roof, which has got a massive hole in it. The roof of the toilet block got damaged several months back and for several months panchayat had no idea about that. During rain ATR commuters have to use umbrella inside the male toilet block due to damaged roof.
In morning convoy the number of guests are so high that infront of ladies toilet section one can see long queue of women and often women has to use gents toilet section, to catch the convoy.
When the Ferrargunj Panchayat is collecting nearly Rs. 5000 to Rs. 8000 daily from public by collecting entry fees for the toilet block, then it should be the Panchayat’s top priority to maintain the toilet block for public use.
