Port Blair, Feb 11: As it has become a daily affair, today also a few Jarawa men and women tried stop the vehicles of ATR convoy with sharp weapons. One of the vehicles infront of which Jarawa men and women came, was having delegation of Aam Aadmi Party onboard.
According to the delegation atleast thrice several vehicles of 3 PM convoys were stopped by the Jarawa Tribe members, who were threatening people with Machete and Arrows, with the intension to loot the passengers.
In recent past also there were some reports of similar loot by Jarawa men and women at ATR.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, Mr Sanjay Meshack, Convener, AAP, who was also in one of the vehicles, raised serious concern in this issue. He demanded deployment of more police and AAJVS staffs in vehicles of ATR to protect ATR commuters as well as Jarawa Tribal People.
“Before tourists stop coming to Baratang, considering the sudden behavior change of the Jarawa youths, the administration should immediately take steps to protect Tourist and Islanders from such attacks,” said Mr Meshack.
Mr. Sanjay Meshak also demanded a thorough inquiry to know the reason behind such sudden behavioral changes in Jarawa Tribes and also to find out whether some people are instigating Jarawa Tribes to carryout such loots.
