Port Blair, Jan 17: The Andaman & Nicobar State Cooperative Bank has organised a programme on Skill Development of SHGs by distribution of Tailoring Machines at Kalapathar, Sippighat Panchayat on 16th Jan, 2018.
Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Vice Chairman of the Bank was the chief guest on the occasion. The programme was also attended by Mr. Ravinder Rao, Managing Director, Mr. Vincent Walter, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Sippighat, Mrs. Sahaya Mary, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat, Humfreygunj, Bank officials, a large gathering of SHG members and local residents of the area.
Mr. Ravinder Rao, Managing Director (MD) welcomed the Chief Guest and all the dignitaries present on the occasion. He further informed that the A & N State Coop. Bank has initiated its efforts and conducted training programme for SHG members on various sectors. He briefed the gathering about the various schemes of the bank and also urged the people to come forward and join hands with the Cooperative Bank.
Mr. Vincent Walter, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Sippighat also spoke on the occasion by appreciating the efforts of the Management of the Cooperative Bank in organizing such programmes for the people of Kalapathar area. He also requested the Chief Guest to organise more such programmes of Tailoring and Fashion designing to Mrs. Sahaya Mary, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Humfreygunj also spoke on the occasion by stressing the various activities undertaken by the Cooperative Sector especially the Cooperative Union and Cooperative Bank in promoting the Skill development for the SHGs. They further On the basis of the demand of people of Kalapathar area, the bank had initiated training programme for Tailoring in which over 30 persons participated. Later on, at the successful completion of the training, 17 nos. Beneficiaries have enrolled themselves for Sewing machines by means of loan from the bank with a monthly installment of Rs. 235/- per month for bigger machine and Rs. 144/- per month for smaller machines for a tenure of 5 year which can easily be repaid even by the weaker section of the society.
Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Vice Chairman distributed Tailoring Machine to 17 beneficiaries amounting to Rs. 1,51,000/- who have successfully completed the MEDP (Micro Entrenuership Development Programme) of Tailoring and availed machines for tailoring. The Chief Guest also distributed certificates to the participants who have completed the MEDP training.
The Chief Guest, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma in his key note address conveyed his New Year wishes to the people present on the occasion. He further conveyed his best wishes to the beneficiaries who have availed loan from the bank for tailoring machine. He has urged all the SHGs to strive and work had with dedication and sincerity for a better living.
He further highlighted that there are tremendous scope of work for SHGs through which the members can empower themselves and become self-independent. He also cited the examples of recent developments in Tourism sectors which will yield great opportunities for the SHGs in days to come. He further urged all the SHG members present on the occasion to come forward and avail credit facility from the bank for the improvement of socio-economic conditions.
The programme ended with vote of thanks by Mrs. Sulata Mistry, Trainer of the MEDP training programme.
