
Port Blair, Jan 17: Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, the MP had a meeting with Telecom Secretary, Govt. of India in Sanchar Bhawan, New Delhi on 12.01.2018 and pursued various issues for augmentation of Internet Connectivity in A & N Islands.
Mr. Ray has expressed the physical problems now being faced by the Islanders and requested for up gradation & improvement of Telephone-OFC-V-Set, towers, broadband etc for betterment of the Islanders.
As far as the matter for finalization of the tender for, laying the Optical Fiber Connectivity Project between Chennai and Port Blair, the Telecom Secretary assured that almost all the proactive action for floating tender has already been taken up and the work to lowest and genuine bidder would be awarded shortly. In pursuant to the discussion, the Telecom Secretary has further directed the CMD, BSNL for doing the needful expeditiously.
In regard to establishment V-Set for better connectivity throughout the Islands, the Telecom Secretary further informed to the M.P that for betterment of the communication services in the UT Islands, it has been decided to installed altogether 219 Nos 2G-4G Towers. It is also informed that the action for floating of tender for the above projects have already been taken up, which shall be finalized shortly.
In concern to “Bharat Net project” the Telecom Secretary assured that the issue for providing Internet Connectivity of all Panchayat through the “Bharat Net Project” will be expedited.
To study the ground reality and other consequences in regard to facilitating the Broadband and Internet Services for better communication services, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray,M.P. has requested the Telecom Secretary to visit Andaman.
Consequent upon that the Telecom Secretary agreed to visit Port Blair to convene a review meeting on 10th and 12th February, 2018. It is further informed that in the said meeting, the CMD BSNL and other higher ups of Telecom Ministry will be attended.
