Port Blair, July 02: The Non-Gazetted Government Officers’ Association, Andaman and Nicobar Islands organized a State Level Convention on 30th June at 4.30 p.m. at Hotel ACC, Mohanpura, Port Blair on the 14-point Charter of Demands submitted to the Government of India by the Confederation of Central Govt. Employees and Workers. Inaugurating the Convention, Mr. B. Chandrachoodan, General Secretary, CITU, A & N State Committee blamed the central government for the deepening economic crises in the country. He said that the government has utterly failed to control prices in the country.
Addressing the Convention, D. Ayyappan, General Secretary, Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association, who is a Member of the National Executive Committee of the Confederation, said that the Confederation has started a nation-wide campaign among the central government employees on the 14-point charter of demands. He said that the central government employees will conduct a March to Parliament on 26th July, 2012 and on the same day a Mass Dharna will be held in front of the Secretariat at Port Blair. He further said that on conclusion of the campaign, a one-day strike will be resorted by central government employees throughout the country either in the last week of September or 1st week of October, 2012.
Mr. TS Sreekumar, Assistant General Secretary of the Association explained in detail each of the 14-point Charter of Demands. Mr. HL Prasad, Vice President, South Andaman Teachers’ Branch of the Association also addressed the gathering. Earlier, Mr. Sadanad Rai, Vice President of the Association, who presided over the Convention, welcomed the gathering. Mr. S. Surender, Vice President proposed Vote of Thanks.
A large number of government employees and workers from various departments under the Administration attended the Convention. The Convention decided to launch a territory-wide campaign on the demands from July, 2012.
