Port Blair, Dec 28: ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (CIARI), North & Middle Andaman organised a three days training programme on “Issues and Approaches in Organic Poultry Production and Marketing” at Community Hall, Gram Panchayat Nimbutala from 26/12/17 to 28/12/17. The programme was inaugurated in the presence Mr. Sudershan Bairagi, UP-Pradhan, Gram Panchayat, Nimbutala; PRI-members, and Dr. Shailesh Kumar, I/c Senior Scientist and Head, ICAR-KVK, N & M Andaman. In his inaugural address, Mr. Sudershan Bairagi thanked the Krishi Vighyan Kendra for organising the programme and motivated the farmers to adopt organic poultry farming.
During the three days training programme, Dr. Shailesh Kumar highlighted the scope and importance of organic poultry production in Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Dr. Shardul Vikram Lal, SMS (Animal Science)/ Course coordinator discussed on various issues related to concept of organic poultry farming, issues in organic poultry production, poultry housing, poultry breeding and healthcare management in organic poultry production. Mr. B. L. Meena informed the method for preparation of low cost feed from locally available resources for organic poultry production. Mr. D. Basantia suggested the farmers to feed the extract of M. Citrifolia (Noni) for improved growth and production from poultry. In addition to these expert lectures, a video film on organic poultry production and marketing were shown to the farmers. A total of 32 farmers and farmwomen including 19 males and 13 females were benefitted from programme. The programme was conducted under the supervision and guidance of Dr. Shailesh Kumar, I/c Senior Scientist & Head, KVK, N & M Andaman and Dr. A. Kundu, Director, CIARI.
