Port Blair, Dec 22: KVK, N&M Andaman organized two training programmes on “Responsible harvest and quality standards for marine fish export” and “Integrated production practices for oil seed crops” at Uttara and Kadamtala respectively. A three days training programme at Uttara Gram panchayat Hall was inaugurated by Smt Saraswati Bawali, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Uttara in presence of Up-Pradhan, PRI’s and others. In her inaugural speech Smt Bawali, expressed for need of such training programme for improving skills of youth for self employment in rural areas. She also urged participants to pay attention for obtaining maximum benefits from the programme. Dr. Shailesh Kumar, SMS (Fisheries) briefed about the three days training programme and urged the farmers and participants to adopt scientific methods of marine fish harvest for maintaining export quality and improved returns in a sustainable way. Experts of KVK had interactive sessions on different topics such as rights and responsibilities of fishermen in sustaining fish harvest, scientific post harvest practices in sea, code of conduct for responsible fisheries, scope of fish export and regional trade, quality control and marketing of fish & fish products, trend, issues and development to sustain fishery industries etc. by Dr. Nagesh Ram, Sr. Scientist & Head, Dr. Shailesh Kumar, Mr. B. L. Meena, SMS, Agronomy. Film shows on modern fish harvesting methods, fish processing and fish products development were screened during the programme.
In another training programme on Integrated production practices for oil seed crops at Uttara experts of KVK and Department of Agriculture held technical sessions on topics viz scope and importance of oil seed crops in the islands, agronomic practices, integrated nutrient management, pest and disease management, postharvest and value addition in oil seed crops etc. The technical session was conducted by Dr. Nagesh Ram, Mr. B. L. Meena, Mr. Dhananjay Das and Dr. Shailesh Kumar. Visuals were also showed to the participants on scientific cultivation of oil seed crops developed by ICAR institutes. The concluding session was chaired by Shri Sukhlal Mondal, Pradhan, Kadamtala in presence of Up-Pradhan, PRIs and others. A total of 61 participants were benefitted from both the training programmes. The training were organized by Dr. Shailesh Kumar and Shri B. L. Meena under the supervision & guidance of Dr. B. L. Kasinath, Sr. Scientist & Head and Dr. A. Kundu, Director, CIARI, Port Blair.
