Port Blair, Dec 14: As part of the ongoing drive for Clean and Green India, the personnel of Naval Component of the Andaman and Nicobar Command observed the Swachhta Pakhwada from 01-15 Dec 17. During the fortnight, activities such as beach cleaning at Corbin’s Cove and Marina Park areas, cleaning of Ship’s cook house and internal office spaces, clearance of rainwater drains to prevent flooding and tree plantation were carried out.
Pollution control check of vehicles plying in defence establishments, removal of debris from construction sites and residential areas and cleaning of the civil jetty at Haddo were also undertaken by the defence personnel and their families.
Great zeal and enthusiasm was displayed by all, which indicated consciousness about the significance of cleanliness in life. Additionally, awareness campaign for school children was conducted and the importance of maintaining high standards of cleanliness was emphasised. Motto of “Act Locally, Think Globally” and “Cleanliness is next to Godliness” was impressed upon.
