Port Blair, June 29: The Member of Parliament, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray today demanded restoration of science stream in GSSS Port Mout.
Addressing a press conference at the MP office today, the MP said that against this decision of administration today parents and students had blocked the road till 2pm near Pout Mout school and he supported the move of angry students and parents.
Highlighting about the school the MP said that this school was a primary school in 1973 and in 1976 it became a Senior Secondary School. The science stream in this school was introduced in the year 1983-84.
But unfortunately in 2009-10, 16 students appeared in CBSE Class XII exams in science stream in which only seven got passed and 2011-12, six students appeared for exam but no one could clear the exam.
The MP alleged that as teachers were not available in the school for around six months students could not clear the CBSE class XII exams and for this the students should not be punished.
“If the science stream is withdrawn from GSSS Port Mout, students who stay in areas like Guptapahar, Manjery, Wandoor etc will face too much difficulty,” the MP said.
MP also alleged that the administration is taking decisions as per its own whims and fancies without consulting with Gram sabha, Pradhans, PTA or MP.
Further the MP warned that if the science stream is not restored, tomorrow also the parents and students will block the Andaman Trunk Road.
