Port Blair, Nov 30: The Local Born Association has won back the 10 MBBS seat of ANIIMS for all the inhabitants of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, which the Administration had reduced from the Andaman & Nicobar Islands inhabitants’ quota and given it to foreign national students.
Anguish over this decision the Local Born Association (LBA) filed a petition in Hon’ble High Court of Calcutta, Circuit Bench and on 24th November, the Court quashed the A&N Administration notification dated 22nd June, 2017.
Addressing a press conference at Netaji Hall, Aberdeen Bazaar today evening at 05:00pm, the President, LBA, Dr Prem Kishen said that the Hon’ble High Court observed that the said notification dated 22nd June, 2017 which was promulgated, no public interest can be found in the said notification as, in fact, it was abused and misused, the reserve seats of the in-habitants of Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Dr Kishen alleged that top officers of the Andaman Administration, has nothing to do with the welfare of the Locals.
“The administration lost sight of the betterment of in-habitant of Andaman Nicobar Islands. Those officers who acted against the interest of the local in-habitants (Descendents of Penal Settlement) should be immediately sacked and should be severely punished,” demanded Dr Prem Kishen.
Dr Prem Kishen also demanded that these 10 seats which were taken away from the state quota for the inhabitant of the Islands be restored and allotted in accordance with criteria fixed by GOI.
“We are waiting for the reply of the administration and if our demands are not fulfilled, we will meet the Lt Governor and ask him that who will bear a year loss of the local inhabitant candidates,” Dr Prem said.
