
Port Blair, Nov 28: Electronic and print media of Andaman and Nicobar visited Indian Coast Guard Ship Samudra Paharedar, a specialised pollution control vessel on 28 Nov 17 to have preview of capabilities of the vessel prior overseeing Regional Level Marine Oil Pollution exercise off Port Blair.
ICGS Samudra Paharedar is second of its class. The ship was commissioned on 20 Jul 2012 and is capable of carrying out Oil Pollution Response operation at sea. The capabilities include Containment, Recovery and Disposal of the spilled oil owing to accidents or incidents at sea. The ship is fitted with state of the art equipment capable of containing, recovering and stowage of recovered oil at sea even in rough weather. The ship is of 95 Mtrs in length with quarter deck (aft part) fully dedicated for Pollution Response. The equipment fitted onboard includes 03 types of skimmers, 02 types of Booms, 01 TC3 Bucket for aerial spray, Spill Spray Arm for surface spray and array of allied equipment for use in pollution response at sea.
