
Port Blair, Nov 27: The sea off Andaman will witness a Regional Level Marine Oil Pollution Response Exercise by the Indian Coast Guard tomorrow, 29 Nov 2017. The exercise is aimed at analysis of the preparation and coordination between various agencies in response to a marine oil spill in the Andaman sea. The Director General Indian Coast Guard is the Chairman of the NOSDCP(National Oil Spill Disaster Contingency Plan) and ICG is also the Central Coordinating Agency for oil spill response in the country. More than 64% world oil passes through the Ocean Channels criss crossing the A&N Islands.
Four thousand ton, Specialised pollution control vessel, Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Samudra Praharedar from mainland entered Port Blair yesterday, 27 Nov and will be participating in Regional level pollution exercise along with A&N based Coast Guard ships and aircraft.
