Port Blair, Nov 22: ICAR-KVK (CIARI), Nimbudera celebrated the World Fisheries Day on 21st November, 2017 at Betapur, Sivapuram Panchayat. Mr. Lorhantus Bara, Pradhan, Shivapuram was the chief guest and inaugurated the function in presence of Mr. A.T. Rao, Member, Zilla Parishad, Betapur, Dr. B.L Kasinath, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK, PRI’s members, fishermen and others.
In his inaugural speech, Mr. Bara asked the fishermen to act responsibly in maintaining marine ecosystem healthy and pollution free for sustainable fish harvest. He also requested the fishermen to bring about positive change in their lifestyle and explore higher income from fisheries sector. Mr. Rao, while speaking on the occasion, encouraged fishermen and fish farmers to come forward and avail the benefit of Govt. welfare schemes, he also appreciated all the efforts of KVK, N & M Andaman for organizing a very informative programme in Sansad adarsh gram, Shivapuram. .
Dr. B.L Kasinath, Senior.Scientist and Head, KVK, N & M Andaman explained about the activities of KVK and urged the farmers and participants to bring their problems to the knowledge of KVK for better solutions. He also discussed about the importance of fish for higher nutrition and income. Dr. Shailesh Kumar, SMS (Fisheries) discussed in detail about the significance of sustainable and responsible harvest in Andaman sea and importance of world fisheries day for the fishermen. Er. Manoj Kumar, SMS (Agril . Engg) explained about preservation and value addition in fish and fisheries products. An interactive session was organized in which fishermen raised their quires to the experts regarding marine fishing. The programme was co-ordinated by Dr. Shailesh Kuamar and Mr. B.L.Meena under the guidance and supervision of Dr. B. L. Kasinath and Dr. A. Kundu, Director, CIARI, Port Blair. Earlier Mr. D. Basantia, SMS, Horticulture welcomed the guests and participants and Mr. B.L. Meena proposed the vote of thanks. A total of 50 fishermen were benefitted from the programme.
