Port Blair, Nov 22: Port Blair, Oct 12: Mr. R.Karunanithi, Vice Chairman, ORO has informed the administrator that the residents of Hut Bay, Little Andaman are facing various issues.
In a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor, informed that the Tehsil office present at Hut Bay, Little Andaman is working without Tehsildar since few months. The charge of Tehsildar is currently entrusted to the Block Development Officer of Hut Bay in addition to his own charge. Following which most of the revenue related works including the land revenues are getting pending and public are facing undue difficulty in the resolution. Mr. R. Karunanithi has requested LG to direct the concerned department to ensure the vacant post is been filled.
He further informed that the connectivity of telecom services and internet is only through BSNL in the region. But due to poor connectivity and service the general public and office going staffs are suffering a lot as they cannot contact the outer world. Also he said that in order to have a journey from Port Blair to Little Andaman the public has to travel by the DSS boat which takes around 6-8 hrs of stretch and vice versa. The public traveling by this passenger ferry are complaining that the journey is too horrible and pathetic as the plastic made seats are non comfortable and the air conditioning is worst felt, Mr. Karunanithi said. Also the passengers traveling to hut Bay are increasing day by day and often many of them are deprived of the services of the DSS due to non availability of ferry tickets. In order to fulfill the current requirement DSS must arrange good number of passenger ferries with sufficient capacity which can operate in the sector without fail as per the schedule.
He further wrote that another vessel MV Bharat Seema which is usually plying in the sector of Hut Bay to Port Blair and vice versa should also have air conditioning facility instead of special deck fixed with air blower for regular travelers. Mr. Karunanithi further requested the Lt. Governor to look into the mater personally and make all-out efforts to ensure that the grievances are sorted out in a smooth manner.
