Port Blair, Nov 17: In 1985, by an Act of Parliament, the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) was established as a Central University, with national and international jurisdiction. Started with few thousand students in its initial period, now meets the educational needs of millions of people; thus emerged as ‘Peoples University’. Being one of the mega universities in the world, now the impact of IGNOU is felt at every corner of our Country. The success of IGNOU in reaching the ‘unreached’ sections of India is a great achievement in higher education of our Country.
Having completed a decade the Regional Centre of IGNOU at Port Blair, is celebrating the Foundation Day of the University on 19th November, 2017. As a part of celebration, the Regional Centre is planning to organize interactive sessions with its Study Centre functionaries, Academic Counsellors, Students and other Associates. The interactions will give scope to analyze the history of development of IGNOU activities at A & N Islands and provide future directions for growth and progress.
