Port Blair, Nov 16: The 03rd Day of the 64th All India Cooperative Week Celebration was inaugurated on 16th Nov, 2017 at the Conference Hall of the RCS Office by Dr. R.N. Rath, Officer on Special Duty, Andaman Law College as the Chief Guest in presence of Representatives of various Apex Level Cooperative, Govt officials, PRI members and a large gathering of Cooperators.
At the beginning, Mr. Anant Rao, General Secretary, A & N State Cooperative Union welcomed all the delegates to the 64th All India Coop. Week Celebration 2017. He further informed the gathering that
today is the third day programme on the ongoing 64th All India Coop. Week Celebration 2017 and today’s topic is “Enabling Legislation for Cooperative Movement”.
Mr. Abdul Rasheed, ARCS spoke on the topic enabling Legislation for Cooperative Development by highlighting the need for building a brand image of the Cooperative Society. He further added that there are various Cooperatives which are rendering services for sugar supplies, hand-looms, milk etc across the country. He also emphasized the key parameters of Cooperative Societies Act and various Amendments need to be done as per the change of time.
Shr. Ravinder Rao, Managing Director, A &N State Cooperative Bank also spoke on the topic by highlighting the necessary amendment in the paid up share capital from the existing slab of Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 1,00,000.
He also emphasized in the various rules and regulations under the A & N Islands Cooperative Regulation Act 1973 and Rules 1974.
Mr. M. K. Srinivasan, General Manager, ANCOFED also spoke on the occasion by highlighting the examples of Consumer Cooperative Society and various other Cooperative Institution of the Island. He also emphasized that necessary amendments like Public Private Partnership (PPP) need to be carried out in the Regulation for the changing times.
Mr. Sanjay, Secretary, Inter Island Transport Cooperative Society expresses his difficulties in the forum in carrying out materials from Port Blair to Neil and Havelock Islands. He further requested the Administration to help the society in the transportation of the material through engine dinghy considering the necessity of the demand from the general public of Neil and Havelock Islands.
The Chief Guest Dr. R. N. Rath, Officer on Special Duty, Andaman Law college highlighted the change in Cooperative sector which is to be carried out as per the demand. He further added that the Law should be
changed as per the time and demand. He further emphasis that the main motive of Cooperatives is “Reaching the unreachable” and rendering services to the common man. He further cited the example of formation of Cooperatives societies at Mahatma Gandhi College, Mayabunder for ration items. He has further urged the people present on the occasion to join the hands of Cooperative and get the benefits of Cooperatives.
The programme ended with the vote of thank proposed by Mr. Rizwan Ali, Director, A & N State Cooperative Union.
