Port Blair, Nov 07: Since last couple of years Andaman and Nicobar Islands have seen such pathetic condition of roads, which they haven’t seen in last 20 years.
One wonders that if the same Andaman and Nicobar Islands, with same geographical challenges, same weather conditions and same terrains can have better roads in past then why can’t same A & N Islands have better roads today?
Has all the engineers of concerned departments has lost their knowledge or the Administration don’t have time to review road conditions and do necessary follow ups?
Andaman Trunk Road and also city roads are in pathetic shape today and as the Lt. Governor, Chief Secretary and other secretary ranked officers, mostly visit Islands by helicopter they don’t really understand the problems being faced by General Public.
Forget about ATR, the city roads have developed so many potholes, waves and void areas that the city roads now wear a look of Moon Surface.
One fails to understand if APWD and PBMC are unable to maintain city roads then why can’t Lt. Governor show some courage and suspend the concerned EE ranked officers of APWD and PBMC for their inability to maintain roads and irresponsibility in performing their duties.
General public on the other hand are paying all kind of taxes through nose, GST, Income Tax, Cess, VAT, property tax, water tax, road tax and what not but in return they are getting roads, worst than village roads.
There is a major buzz in social media now that thousands of people will opt for NOTA option in all coming elections as all the political leaders from ruling and opposition parties have showed no courage to raise voice, in this issue.
The ever sleeping opposition party, Congress and also the ruling BJP party will certainly feel the heat in next elections, over bad roads.
Islanders urge the Lt. Governor to come out of Raj Niwas for one day and pay a surprise inspection of city road to understand how difficult it is for Islanders to commute in these roads. If tomorrow there is a major road accident because of bad road, then the Administration must be ready to take the responsibility of the accident and deaths of innocent people.
