Port Blair, Oct 29: Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament and with the cooperation of APWD (being the Nodal Department for PMGSY works) had presented a demand for construction of 29 Nos Rural Roads at various parts of this Islands under scheme of “Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojna” (PMGSY) to the Ministry of Rural Development.
In response to the enormous efforts of Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, M.P. A & N Islands, a meeting of Empowered Committee was held at Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi on 27.10.2017 under the Chairmanship of Mr.Amarjeet Sinha, Secretary, Ministry of Rural Development, GOI. Wherein, the Commissioner-cum- Secretary, APWD, Secretary Rural Development (Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman) and other senior officers of this UT Administration, Sr. Officer NITI Ayog and Ministry of Home Affair were also present.
After having detailed discussion, the Empowered Committee has approved for undertaking 29 Nos rural roads for total length of 43.052 kilometer under the scheme of PMGSY-I. The financial implication towards the above rural roads would be around 12.0 Crores. As confirmed by the Committee, the formal orders to this effect will be issued shortly.
The committee further assured to undertake another rural roads recommended by Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, M.P. of A & N Islands for total length of 40 kilometers under the scheme of PMGSY and accordingly the Andaman Public Works Department (APWD) has been asked to submit proposal before the Ministry.
The Committee also agreed to undertake new rural roads projects in up-gradation scheme in PMGSY-I and the APWD has been accordingly requested to submit the DPR after having recommended by the Member of Parliament, A & N Islands. As per which almost all 1.5 Km long rural roads will be upgraded under the PMGSY Scheme.
For this landmark efforts, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, M.P.A& N Islands has expressed his gratitude to Mr.Amarjeet Sinha, Secretary, Ministry of Rural Development, GOI and also to the Andaman Public Works Department(APWD) for their coordination and cooperation in the matter.
