Port Blair, Oct 22: On 21/10/2017, the A&N Police observed the Police Commemoration Day. Ms. Nuzhat Hassan IPS, Director General of Police, A&N Islands alongwith officers and personnel of A&N Police paid homage to the Police martyrs who lost their lives while discharging their duties by placing the wreaths and flowers on the “Shaheed Smarak” at Parade Ground, Police Lines. On October 21st every year, the Commemoration Parade is held in all Police units across India in the memory of police personnel who were martyred in Ladakh in a faceoff with the Chinese Army in 1959 and all the other Police personnel who have made supreme sacrifice on duty elsewhere in the service of the nation.
This year 379 Police personnel laid down their lives in the line of duty all over the country. The names of Police Martyrs of states Police and Paramilitary Forces were read out by the DGP, A&N Islands to acknowledge and pay obeisance for supreme sacrifice made by them.
The Parade was witnessed by officers and men of the A&N Police including retired Police Officers, who also placed wreaths and flowers on the “Shaheed Smarak” during the function.
Entire arrangements for the Commemoration Parade were made under the supervision of Ms. Usha Rangnani IPS, Superintendent of Police (AP/SAP).
