Port Blair, Oct 09: An awareness programme on establishment of model village for dairy, goatery and poultry was conducted at Ograbraj Community Hall on 7th October, 2017 by ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute, Port Blair in collaboration with Directorate of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, A & N Administration, to integrate different components which will enable to double the farmer’s income by 2022.
Shri. Rafique, Pradhan, Mithakhari Gram Panchayat, Shri. S. Dey, Ex-Pradhan, PRI Members, farmers of the Mithakhari and Chouldari panchayat and adjoining villages. Dr. Jai Sunder, Dr.M.S.Kundu, Dr. T.Sujatha, Dr.A.Ke De, Dr. K. Muniswamy, Scientists of CIARI, Dr. Vijay Kumar, SVO, Port Mort, representative from Agricultural Department and SKM feeds were the resource personnel.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri. Rafique, Pradhan appreciated and thanked CIARI and DAHVS for selecting their villages for establishment of model village for dairy, goatery and poultry. He informed that farmers of this Panchayat are very much interested to adopt the latest development and scientific intervention for improving the productivity. He requested the DAHVS to conduct a joint meeting with the other Development Departments and bank representatives to discuss and solve the other relevant issues of the farmers.
Dr. Jai Sunder, Pr. Scientist, ICAR-CIARI highlighted on the importance of animal husbandry for improving the livelihood security and income generation. He appreciated the interest of farmers in adopting the animal husbandry intervention as option for livelihood and income generation. He gave detailed talk on the selection breed, disease, treatment and vaccination and control of important diseases for improving the productivity. Dr. Vijay Kumar, SVO talked about the benefit of dairy, goatery and poultry farming to improve the productivity through scientific management practices. He also mentioned about the various developmental schemes of the department and urged all the farmers to come forward the same. Dr.M.S.Kundu, Pr. Scientist gave information about the feasibility of fodder cultivation in plain, sloppy land as mono-cropping as well as intercropping with coconut and areacanut plantations. Dr. T. Sujatha, Sr. Scientist talked about the management practices of poultry.
During the discussion and interaction with farmers various issues related to scientific management practices of dairy, goatery and poultry were discussed and resolved. Altogether 53 farmers attended the programme.
