Port Blair, Sept 24: In continuation to the appeal published by this department on 21.09.2017, it is to inform that Power Generation available capacity is still less in compare to the demand during evening peak hours. The department has made all possible efforts to add more generators but, the new generators will be available only in November, 2017 except 02 Nos. 1 MW Generators which will be added by end of this month.
Due to above reasons, the Electricity Department is compelled to carryout load shedding during day as and when required and during evening peak hours by rotation.
Hence, the Electricity Department has appealed to all the Durga Puja committees of Port Blair and South Andaman to go for bare minimum decorative lights & electrical gadgets and avoid high consuming halogen lamps. It is also strongly advised to keep standby DG sets to avoid complete darkness in the absence of main supply.
Further, all Durga Puja Committees in A&N Islands to strictly ensure that all electrical safety precaution is taken while illuminating the Durga Puja Pandals and on the road side near the pandals. All electric lines, equipments and apparatus used, should be of sufficient rating of power, insulation and estimated fault current and sufficient mechanical strength for the duty which they are required to perform and shall be constructed, installed, protected, worked and maintained in such a manner so as to ensure safety of human beings, animal and property. The decorative lights should compulsorily be 5 ½ feet above the ground level so that it is out of the reach of childrens.
“The electrical contractors engaged in illumination / decoration of Puja Pandals and the vehicles used for Visharjan of Idols are advised to strictly adhere to the safety Regulations and precautions while handling the electrical appliances. All the electrical wires / cables used should be properly insulated to avoid any mishap / loss of life,” a department release said here today.
The general public has also been advised while visiting the Puja Pandals to be cautious and vigil of the electrical wires and cables used for illumination / decoration of Puja Pandals.
