Port Blair, Sept 20: On Saturday i.e. 16.09.2017 about 200-250 of tourists were stranded at Havelock Island due to inclement weather. On receiving the information, at the instant the A & N Administration activated all its logistical mechanism and put into services for the safety of the stranded tourists.
Meanwhile, the A & N Command had sailed one ship to Havelock to fetch the defence personal who were struck there at Havelock. Besides bringing the defence personal, the Navy was able to bring back 20 civilian stranded tourists in there ship.
Subsequently, the Directorate of Shipping Services departed ships to Havelock on the morning hours of 17.09.2017 in spite of stormy weather to embark the stranded tourists at Havelock. The priority was given to those stranded tourists who had their flight tickets on the same day.
By the efforts of District Administration, Shipping Services, Police and other line departments, the stranded tourists were brought to Port Blair by 0930 hrs and were directly taken to airport those who had their flights before 1100 hrs. The Departments of the Administration by its best efforts was able to bring back the entire tourist in a time bond manner to Port Blair which avoided undue harassment to the tourists.
