Port Blair, September 19: In a surprising show of dominance, Andaman athletes bagged a silver medal in the recently concluded National Eastern Zone Athletic Championship in Kolkata.
Athletes won a Silver Medal in 4×100 relay. Athletes Suresh Bahadur, Davidson, Moso Guria, D Raghuvaran participated in the relay and brought laurels for the Islands.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, the athletes said that they worked tremendously hard for this success and said that the entire credit goes to their Coach Mammo, who took them for the Championship taking a leave from the Department and for giving them proper coaching with whatever facilities available here.
The Athletes later demanded the administration that if they can provide a Synthetic Track and some other basic facilities then they local athletes will definitely bag gold medal in forthcoming championships.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, Dr Jijith Rekh, President, Athlete Association, Andaman & Nicobar Islands with whose efforts the team was selected and sponsored said that the athletes in the islands have a natural talent in them and if they are provided with some basic support from the administration like Synthetic Track, Physiotherapist etc, they have the capability to win medals.
“I would like to thank NGO-Living on the edge , Coach Mammo who had trained the Athletes since last one and a half year without getting anything in return and to others who sponsored the athletes for their tickets etc.,” Dr Jijith added.
