Port Blair, Sep 18: ICAR-KVK, CIARI, N & M Andaman conducted a three days training programme on “Scientific rearing practices in goat” w.e.f. 15/09/17 to 18/09/17 at Community Hall, Dharampur. Under this programme, an “Animal Health Camp for Goat Improvement” was held on 18/09/17 at Dharampur village in Gram Panchayat, Shivpuram on Monday with the support from Animal Science Section, ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair. In this programme, the farmers were advised regarding the importance of deworming in goats and need for supplementation of goat ration with mineral mixture. During the programme, about 129 no. of goat were examined and albomar was drenched for deworming. In addition to this, mineral mixture and vitamin supplement were also provided to the farmers. Dr. Shardulvikramlal, SMS (Animal Science)/ Course co-ordinator, a veterinary doctor and other officials from KVK took part in the programme. Earlier, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat, Shivpuram inaugurated the programmeand motivated the farmers to adopt scientific practices in Goat farming. He thanked KVK for organizing the programme for the benefit of farmers. Dr. B. L. Kasinath, Head /Course Director, highlighted the importance and scope goat farming in the island of N & M Andaman. Er. Manoj Kumar, SMS (Agril. Engg.) briefly discussed on the housing system in goat. Shri. D. Basantia, SMS (Horticulture) informed regarding the feeding practices in goat. In the three days training programme, the farmers were informed about the housing system in goat and different aspects of goat farming such as care and management of Kids, Buck and Doe, feed management, and disease management. A film show on “Azolla Cultivation” was also screened by Shri. Prasant Pradhan (Computer Programme Assistant). A total of 32 farmers attended the programme. This programme was conducted under the supervision and guidance of Dr. B. L. Kashinath, Senior scientist and Head, KVK and Dr. A. Kundu, Director, CIARI.
