Port Blair, September 15: The Member of Parliament, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Mr Bishnu Pada Ray today blamed the Andaman Nicobar Administration for the power crisis presently seen in the islands.
Addressing a press conference held at the Chatham Power House, Chatham at 10:00 am this morning, the MP said that the present scenario of Power in these Islands is due to the lethargic attitude of the administration.
He said that in the year 1991, 1992 and so on the Electricity Department purchased few DG Sets but during the time of Maintenance the file kept moving in the Administration and no maintenance was done, which is one of the most important reason behind the Power Crisis.
Further addressing the Press Conference, Mr Bishnu said that he had many technocrats according to whom Solar Power Plant is not at all feasible in Andaman & Nicobar Islands and he also gave the examples of Solar Power Plant at Neil Island, Garacharma and Havelock Island which are not providing electricity as expected.
“Recently me, along with the Lt Governor and some other higher officials met the Power Minister where the decision to go ahead with 45 MW of Solar Power Plant was dropped and the administration was ordered to move ahead with the LNG Project but after that again the Administration has interfered and given some wrong feedback in the ministry following which today again there is a meeting at Delhi,” alleged the MP.
“There is something fishy in it as when the LNG Project is cheaper than the Solar Power Plant and also feasible than why the administration is focusing only on Solar Power Plant,” MP added.
Lastly the MP requested the Lt Governor, Andaman Nicobar Islands to direct the administration to move ahead with LNG Project and not to obstruct it.
