Port Blair, Sept 05: The 20th Death Anniversary of Comrade N. Vasudevan, former President of the Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association and Centre of Indian Trade Unions, Andaman & Nicobar State Committee was observed on 4th September, 2017 by trade unions and Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association.
A remembrance meeting was held at Crusade House, Phoenix Bay at 6 p.m. today in which a large number of government employees and workers attended. Speaking on the occasion, D. Ayyappan, General Secretary of Andaman & Nicobar Gazetted Officers’ Association recalled the movements conducted by trade unions and Association which led to achieving various benefits to government employees and workers.
He said that the life of Com. N. Vasudevan, who had sacrified his entire life for the government employees and workers in the islands, was an inspiration for the trade unions leaders and leaders of Service Associations.
Addressing the gathering, SN Mishra, Vice President of the Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association called upon the government employees to strengthen the trade union movement in the islands to take forward the struggles of Com N. Vasudevan. Speaking on the occasion, TS Sreekumar, General Secretarty, Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association explained the proposed nation-wide agitation by central trade unions on various anti-working class policies of the central government.
Earlier, welcoming the gathering, P. Sathyapal, President of the Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association emphasised the need to strengthen the trade union organisations in the islands on the path shown by Com N. Vasudevan. CITU leaders BC Bhattacharjee and Anand Rajan also spoke on the occasion. R. Surendran Pillai, Asst.General Secretary, Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association proposed vote of thanks.
