
Port Blair, Sept 01: Hundreds of students studying in Government Secondary School Calicut had a narrow escape from falling prey to food poisoning after the Pradhan, Sarpanch noticed worms in the midday meals served to them.
Irate parents and local residents have now threatened protest if no action is taken on the erring contractor as even after the contractor group was reportedly blacklisted in the year 2015-2016, but anyhow the firm got the contract again.
The incident was reported today afternoon when the students of school were served the Fried Rice, Mixed Vegetable and Egg as part of their midday meal. However, the Pradhan and the Sarpanch noticed some worms in the midday meal that was to be served to the students’ plate.
The Pradhan and the Sarpanch of the area have already complained the matter to the District Commissioner, South Andaman with photographs.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, the Pradhan of the area, Asna Majid said that during her visit the team has seen pebbles in the Fried Rice. The mixed vegetable was just a curry of potato. “Our area is declared as Children Friendly village and the students have earlier highlighted this in written,” the Pradhan said.
Further talking to Andaman Sheekha, the Sarpanch of the area Mr Paul Durairaj said that he has tasted the meal and foul smell was coming out of the Rice, “Me too found a pebble in rice,” Sarpanch said.
