Port Blair, Aug 29: On the occasion of National Sports Day on 29thAugust, local sportspersons were felicitated by Crescent Public School, Wimberly Gunj. An exhibition of trophies, cups and certificates showcasing the achievements of the sportspersons was inaugurated by Mr. M B Abdul Rasheed, Member, Managing Committee.
Altogether six sportspersons of the area who had played in national events were felicitated who also interacted with the students and shared their experiences.
Mr. M Abdul Majeed, Mr. P Abdul Manaf, Mr. Benjamin Selva Kumar, Mr. Pandi Raj, C Habeeb Ahmed and Smti Shamsiya Begum were felicitated.
A short documentary on the life of Major Dhyan Chand and a presentation on the achievements of the invited sportspersons were also screened on the occasion. The under-14 football team of the school, which came on top in the Wimberly Gunj Zone was also awarded. Master Jitin Raj (Class VI) was honoured for securing 2nd Position in Zonal Inter-school Badminton tournament U-16 Boys.
M Razique (Class X) and K Jumana Wafira (Class VIII) spoke on the importance and relevance of celebrating National Sports Day. Rukhsar Begum (Class IX) compered and N Shameer Ishaq PET coordinated the programme. Earlier, E Saira Banu, Principal welcomed the gathering and Vaishnavi student (Class IV) proposed vote of thanks.
