Port Blair, Aug 23: A ‘White Coat Ceremony’ was held at ANIIMS Port Blair on 19th Aug 2017. This ceremony was for the fresh MBBS students who were apprised of the expectations that would come after wearing a white coat, to make them aware of the responsibilities and duties of a medical professional. The Director; Maj Gen RP Choubey handed over white coats to all the students. This ceremony began with students taking the ‘Hippocratic Oath’, which is the ethical and moral essence of medical profession. Parents of these students attended this memorable and joyful occasion and expressed their sentiments.
Prior to this ceremony, the Faculty from ANIIMS and speakers from other organisations (DHS, Brahma Kumaris), under the coordination of Dr. S. K. Kathpalia, had conducted a ‘Foundation Course’ in preparation of fresh students before induction in to medical profession. This structured course began on 16th Aug with an Inaugural program and warm welcome to the students by the Director and the OSD of the Medical College. During the foundation course, students were prepared by interactive lectures on various topics; they had to visit various places in GB Pant Hospital to understand the patients’ perspective & sufferings.
Students have appreciated the foundation course, especially for making them realising the need for serving compassionately with conscience and dignity. This third batch of MBBS students in ANIIMS has started attending their regular classes from 21st Aug 2017.
