Port Blair, August 21: A good news for the people those are against alcohol, after the administration has implemented stricter Excise policy since January 2017, the sale of Alcohol has dropped by 26.6 percent in the entire Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Addressing a press conference at the Megapode Nest Resort this afternoon at 12:00 pm, the Lt Governor said that after taking over the charge of the Lt Governor a year back he was shocked seeing the Alcohol Culture of these Islands.
Professor Mukhi said that to deal with the alcohol culture, he then established the Directorate of Prohibition and also imposed Ban on Zarda & Gutkha on 02nd October 2016, which has yielded good results, in these Islands.
“The Department of Prohibition has put tremendous effort to aware the Public regarding the harmful effects of Alcohol and the results are more than the target,” LG said.
Professor Mukhi said that earlier it was expected that the sale will grow to 10-12% more but taking this policy decisions, which are as per the Article 47 he is entitled too, the sale of liquor has come down simultaneously which is also a record in the Country.
