Port Blair, Aug 01: In continuity of Coast Guard initiative to interact with fishing and coastal community of A&N Islands, a Community Interaction Program at Gram Panchayat Hall, Sippighat was conducted by Coast Guard ships Rajshree and Rajveer on 1st August 2017. The event was conducted in close coordination with fisheries department and village panchayat. Local fishermen along with the Gram Pradhan were present during the interaction. Port Blair, Aug 01: In continuity of Coast Guard initiative to interact with fishing and coastal community of A&N Islands, a Community Interaction Program at Gram Panchayat Hall, Sippighat was conducted by Coast Guard ships Rajshree and Rajveer on 1st August 2017. The event was conducted in close coordination with fisheries department and village panchayat. Local fishermen along with the Gram Pradhan were present during the interaction. During this event the fishermen were briefed about various safety precautions to be adhered, while they operate at sea, including use of safety equipment and gears. The fishermen were advised to carry all life saving equipment, boat registration papers including crew ID cards. A lecture was also conducted on basic first aid techniques required to be provided in event of drowning, snake bite and burn injuries. The participants were also sensitized on prevailing security issues and were also informed about important phone numbers of Coast Guard helpline 1554 and Police helpline 1093. They were also enlightened on the actions required to be taken during emergency at sea and on sighting of unidentified / suspect boats at sea. A communiqué received from PRO Coast Guard.
