Port Blair, July 16: A GST outreach programme was organized at Panchayat Bhavan Wimberlygunj today. The GST Commissioner, A&N Islands, Shri Udit Prakash Rai inaugurated the programme. Addressing the gathering, he informed that such programmes are being organized at different locations to create requisite awareness and to dispel the doubts in the minds of the traders and the general public. He stated that without going into the intricacies, the stake holders may focus on the issues concerning their sphere of operation. The resource persons Shri Satyabratha Das, CA and Shri Mohan Ranjan, AC (GST) also discussed various issues in detail and clarified the doubts raised by the local shopkeepers. The Assistant Commissioner, Settlement Shri. Rajesh Choudhary also addressed the gathering and elaborated upon the implementation process and legal provisions.
The PRIs raised the issue of connectivity and the apprehensions of general public and traders in adopting the GST. The Assistant Commissioner clarified that in due course these small hiccups shall be overcome.
Villagers and traders from the region attended the program in large number. Miss Mariyam Bibi, Zilla Parishad Member of Wimberlygunj Constituency welcomed the gathering and expressed the hope that the programme will benefit all the stake holders and the business activities shall be more regulated in the days to come.
