Port Blair, July 16: 115th Birth day celebration of Bharatratna K Kamaraj was celebrated at Gandhi Bhavan on 15th July, 2017. The PCC President Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma garlanded the photo of Kumaraswami Kamaraj followed by floral tribute by members of Zilla Parishad, Port Blair Municipal Council, PRIs, supporters of the Congress Party and the general public present in the function.
Shri Kuldeep, in his brief address, said that Shri Kamaraj became active as political workers at the age of 18 and joined the Congress party and fully involved in the Indian independence movement. He served as INC president for four years between 1964-1967. He was the chief minister of Tamil Nadu during 1954-1963 and is still remembered for bringing school education to the rural poor by introducing free education and the free Mid-day Meal scheme during his tenure as Chief minister. He was popular for his simplicity and integrity , Shri Kuldeep added.
