Port Blair, July 12: A 20 day short term course on ‘Digital Cinematography’, organized by the Directorate of Tourism, A&N Administration and Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune got underway with its inauguration by the Secretary (IP) Dr. A.K. Singla at The Waves Restaurant, Corbyn’s Cove here this morning. Singla at The Waves Restaurant, Corbyn’s Cove here this morning.
The Director, FTII, Shri Bupendra Kenthola, Prof. (FTII) Sandeep Sahare, Course Director (FTII), Shri Wasim Berry, Asst. Faculty (FTII), Shri Imran Bagwan, Course Coordinator (FTII), Shri Shiv Kumar, representatives from Cannon India, Technology partner for FTII, Shri Dhiraj Bhagtani & Shri Gaurav Markhan, Director (IP), Shri Amit Anand, Publicity Officer (IP) Shri T.N. Meena, officers and staff of IP&T were present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, the Secretary (IP) lauded Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) for organizing the first ever such course in India, the ‘Foundation Course in Digital Cinematography’ here in the Islands. He also cited examples of film making process of yesteryears and stated that today cinematography has evolved with many better technologies. He remarked that Cinematography is a vast field which involves hard work for hours, and urged the participants to make best use of the opportunity and learn the technical nuances of Digital Cinematography.
Speaking on the occasion, the Director (FTII), Shri Kenthola remarked that it is a historic occasion for the A&N Administration as well as FTII as the short term course on Digital Cinematography is being conducted for the first time in India here in A&N Islands. He also threw light on the programme of FTII called ‘Skilling India in Film & Television’ (SKIFT), which is being conducted in various parts of the country. He said, FTII aims at providing affordable and quality film education to ensure that candidates get the best kind of knowledge on digital cinematography. FTII, together with A&N Administration will go a long way in paving way for cinematography aspirants from A&N Islands, he added.
In his address, Prof. Sandeep, through a power point presentation explained the objectives and course details of FTII. He said, FTII is having 24 centres all over the country and soon, Port Blair will also have a centre. He also explained about the admission process and various scholarships available at FTII and urged the participants to give their hearts and souls in learning the art of digital cinematography. A small video clip from the film ‘Baji Rao Mastani’ was also screened for technical aspect film appreciation. Shri Dhiraj from Cannon India expressed happiness in being part of the workshop and said, Cannon India along with FTII will continue to organize more such workshops on cinematography here in A&N Islands.
Earlier, welcoming the gathering, the Director (IP) Shri Amit Anand expressed gratitude to FTII for organizing the course for the Islanders. He said, the Tourism Department will promote film tourism here in the Islands and such courses will immensely benefit the Islanders. He also urged the participants to take full advantage of the course.
Altogether, 17 private candidates and 8 Departmental candidates are participating in the 20-day short term course on ‘Digital Cinematography’. The inaugural programme concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Shri Satyanarayan, Hindi Translator.
