To commemorate its 30 years of glorious service to the Nation, 15 ASSAM REGIMENT has organised a series of events to celebrate the occasion.Port Blair, Jul11:Raised on 15 Jul 1987, 15 Assam Regiment has served the length and breadth of the country with distinction and is one of the most experienced Units of the Indian Army. To commemorate its 30 years of glorious service to the Nation, 15 ASSAM REGIMENT has organised a series of events to celebrate the occasion. The Unit undertook cleanliness and beach cleaning drive from 09-11 Jul 2017 inBirchgunj Military Station. A total of 500 unit personnel including families and children actively participated in the drive. As part of tree plantation drive, the unit planted 1000 trees along the coastal area in Brichgunj Military Station. Besides providing fresh air, the green cover will significantly reduce soil erosion and will assist in maintaining ecological balance of the station. Speaking on the occasion Mr PK Paul, DFO, lauded the efforts of the Army. He also highlighted the need to seek greater response from all to conserve the environment and to reverse the serious trend of environmental degradation. On 10 -11 Jul 2017, the Unit carried out youth engagement programme with children of Senior Secondary Government School, Garacharma. As part of engagement programme, the Unit organized essay writing competition, volleyball match and educated children on aspects of cleanliness under “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan”. Essay writing competition was organized to bring out the importance of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and its role in nation building. Speaking on the occasion Padam Shri Mr Naresh Chandra Lal heartily appreciated the efforts of the Army in engaging and motivating the next generation towards nation building.
