Port Blair, July 09: The Port Blair Municipal Council in coordination with Directorate of Health Services and G.B.Pant Hospital conducted a cleanliness drive under Swachh Bharath Abhiyan on Saturday the 8th July,2017 from 6.30 am onwards under the Chairmanship of the Chairperson, PBMC. In which good number of employees of the Council, Shri S.C.L.Das, Pr. Secretary (UD/Health), Smti Rashmi Singh, Secretary,(i/c), PBMC, Shri Udit Praksh Rai, DC(SA), Shri N.K.Udhaya Kumr, Sr.Vice Chairperson, Shri Dharmendra Narayan, Jr. Vice Chairperson, Councillors of PBMC, Dr. S.P.Burma, Medical Superintendet, Dr. Avijit Roy, PHO, PBMC, Dr. Gamesh Samaddar, MO (i/c) GB Pant Hospital, and other supporting staff of G.B.Pant Hospital joined. The Chairperson flagged off the drive at OPD complex. The Swachh Bharth Abhiyan is the most significant cleanliness campaign by the GOI. Swachh Bharat Mission is a campaign run by the government of India as a massive mass movement to initiate the theme of cleanliness all through the India. This campaign was launched in seeking the way to create a Clean India. The team carried out a cleanup activity in the G.B. Pant Premises in consonance to the Prime Minister’s National Swachh Bharth initiative. The initiative is thus an action plan to keep the health premises clean and to create awareness among Island populace. The mass drive involves cleaning up the environs as well as providing a clean, safe and hygienic ambiance. At the first the team headed by Shri B. Eswar Rao, CP,PBMC started the drive in front of ICU/Dialysis Unit by cutting grass and bushes after cleaning the entire patch then the team started cleaning back side of new medical ward, special ward, surrounding area of nursing home etc. The team also collected bottles, gloves and other materials thrown in the nallah and other areas. All the wastes collected from G.B.Pant Hospital, Directorate of Health Services and surrounding areas were shifted to the dumping yard then and there. The team in large was participated in the drive in a enthusiastic manner and the event was a splendid success. The Port Blair Municipal Council is planning to conduct more such mass cleanliness drives in a phased manner and the citizens are invited to join hands with the PBMC towards making the city spic and span.
